Founding Instructor Ken Chaplin Sensei (4th Dan Karate, 1st Dan Kobudo) |
Chaplin Sensei is one of the two people that started the Deep River Karate Club in 1977 after training
for several years with the Pembroke Karate Club
(see Local History).
Chaplin-Sensei's practice in martial arts started before he began to study Itosu-Kai karate. When Chaplin-Sensei retired from karate he embarked on a journey in Tai Chi and Chaplin Sifu now runs Deep River Tai Chi. |
Chief Instructor Ron Rogge Sensei (4th Dan Karate, 1st Dan Kobudo) |
Rogge Sensei started his journey in karate in 2002 under Ken Chaplin Snesei.
When Chaplin Sensei's work took him out of the country for extended periods, then Rogge Sempei
would run classes. Thus when Chaplin Sensei declared in 2005 that he was retiring from karate,
it seemed natural that Ron offer to take over the club to keep it going in Deep River
(provided Ryan Chaplin Sensei help). Rogge Sensei earned his 1st Dan in 2006. Since then, Rogge Sensei has received several Outstanding Coach and Outstanding Sensei awards and was honoured to receive the prestigious Kei Tsumura Award in 2018. The Deep River club has received several Outstanding Dojo awards. |
